Not meds, but....: Your being I'll is more likely to have altered your cycle  than the medication . The stress of illness on your body can affect hormone levels and thus your period. Remember, though,  antibiotics can affect how well your contraception works, so use extra protection if you don't want to get pregnant and are on an type of contraception

i am on estarylla (combination oral birth control) and was just prescribed augmentin for strep throat. will this medication make my birth control less effective?

: Many things are possible in life. That said, birth control pill hormones should still be effective. Amoxicillin, Augmentin, Zithromax, and other commonly-used antibiotics do not have a noticeable effect on the workings of hormonal contraceptives such as combination oral birth control pills. The antibiotic Rifampin is not commonly used, but may have an effect on hormonal contraceptives.

Strep antibiotics: Another medication - are you taking one right now? The antibiotic of choice for strep throat is Penicillin VK (most potent and  cheapest) and its derivatives. If allergic to it, other choices are the Erythromycin group, Cipro (ciprofloxacin) group, cephalosporin group. The last group should be taken with caution as there could be an associated cross-allergy in 10% of people.

Yes: You can develop an allergic reaction to most antibiotic preparations. Strep throat can also generate hives or  a rosey colored flat sandpapery rash as part of the illness.

Doctor can recheck: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other causes. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep). Sometimes a person has influenza and strep throat at the same time, leading to more headache, fever, etc.

No: Strep throat is a bacterial infection that takes root no matter what preventative measures you may employ. Now if it's a viral infection instead, then some homeopathic remedies may help a bit, like echinacea. However, staying well hydrated and resting is the best medicine.

Few: Usually there are few if any side efeects. You can get diarrhea, stomach ache, vomiting, headache or rash. Pretty safe antibiotic.

Drug allergy: It is likely that you have become allergic to amoxicillin and need to stop it. Consult with doctor to find out whether you need a substitute.  It is likely that you are allergic to penicillin as well and should consider consulting an allergist to confirm after you have recovered. Don't understand why prednisone was Rxd.
