Virus: You can have a viral infection causing yellow sputum.  This may be unrelated to the pharyngitis or strep throat.

Xray/CT: of lungs and CT of sinuses. No infection should last 5 months. I suggest a full ENT examination and cultures of throat and sinuses.

i have an extremely sore throat, its bright red at the back with no spots. its very painful to swallow. i also had a toothache 3 days ago and i also spat out some red phlegm. could this be strep throat? im also getting some cold sweats?

: While the most common reason would be a viral infection, it certainly could be strep throat. if your symptoms are severe enough, it may be worthwhile to make a visit to an urgent care center to be tested. Good luck.

: Yes, and some of the reddest/nastiest looking throats are caused by viruses. Simple office based tests can pick out the strep from the others.

No: A productive cough is not typically associated with strep pharyngitis.  A viral upper respiratory tract infection is the most common cause of sputum.  However, if you develop high fevers or shortness of breath you should be evaluated by your primary care provider.

why do i still have yellow mucus, sore throat and productive cough 2 weeks after given amoxicillin for strep throat?

Stept throat: The most likely thing is that  you did not have strept throat unless a culture was done. It is was a strept throat You probably have a viral problem that takes bout 2-3 weeks to get better if you take antibiotics or 13-21 days if you don't. Have others at your work/school had similar problems? Good discussion at Wikipedia for more info. Amox is not drug of choice in US.

Bacterial/viral: You need a chest xray, medical examination and aggressive antibiotic therapy: bloody, colored phlegm is always worrisome-please see a physician-ASAP.

sore throat almost 3 months. reoccurring white spots on tonsils. not strep. no other symptoms. small amounts of bloody/green phlegm from back of throat. the sore throat appeared an hour after kissing someone. help!!! i dont know what this could be. ?

ENT: Your physician may order cultures and a mono test, and if there is no abnormality based on these tests, then a cytologic analysis may be performed.
This requires a biopsy to be obtained by an ENT specialist.  
Avoid smoke, dust and airborne irritants.

Strep: You may have a sinus problem that is causing bloody mucus, headaches and formation of tonsillar stones.Consult your doctor or an ear nose and throat specialist for help
