Congrats: Congrats on your being 18 months clean and sober. Your sponsee is motivated to get clean. Some sober houses will not allow self medication with suboxone. Important for your sponsee to get connected to a rehab program inpatient or outpatient if one is available in your community. Also encourage your sponsee to stay close to 12 step meetings and work the steps a day at a time.

Slowly: Tapering off suboxone(a combination of 2 potent medicine in and of themselves) is something that should be done slowly; and under the guidance of an addiction medicine specialist.  Tapering too quickly has it's own 'side-effects', and the tendency to relapse grows greatly.  Best of luck!

Rx for opiate depend: Suboxone is a medication used for opiate abuse and dependency.  Whether for heroine or over use of prescription drugs (opiates/ pain medications) is can help patients deal with withdrawal and addiction.  It is a combination of Naloxone (an opiate blocker) and buprenorphone a weaker opiate that has higher attraction for opiate sites ( receptors ) in the brain - reducing cravings and chance for abus.

12-24hrs but depends: Depending on the individual, there are two ingredients in subxone: buprenophrine (24-42hrs) and Naloxone (2-12hrs).  So usually we say 5 half-life's for how long the duration of action of this is.

Totally depends on: dose, duration of use, and how much you are taking now. That's how variable it is as it depends on how many half lives of time you have been taking it? Weeks, months, days, hours? It will stay in your system longer if you've been on it for a long time, vs. if you just started it. So, depending on the metabolites it produces, those can remain in the body too.So need more info than this to help you.

Disability Suboxone: Disability is a medical -legal process. Anyone  can apply for disability . If you have a sore thumb you can apply for disability that doesn't mean you're going to get it. If you're having trouble getting off Suboxone it's a matter of excepting that it can be a very long process of going down very slowly on the dose and in the end you should have no problem. That may mean a year to 18 months.
