Pain and lump: The symptoms would be similar to what you had before the operation. Not all symptoms or even lumps are indicative of recurrence. See your surgeon for an exam, and possibly testing to make sure.

Yes: Yes it is possible to have both. Typically however, only large hiatal hernias cause symptoms such as chest pain, difficulty eating, shortness if breath, reflux, and anemia. An upper GI contrast study can help with that diagnosis.

i have a small umbilical hernia & i have to get my gallbladder taken out. is it safe to have the symptoms with the hernia?  & can they see my ovaries too?

Yes: It is very common to have a small umbilical hernia repaired at the same time you have a laparoscopic gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy). It is not a routine practice to examine ovaries during gallbladder surgery, however, it is technically possible. Have this discussion with your surgeon. He/she may want to have a gynecologist available.

Umbilical Hernia: The common symptoms of ruptured umbilical hernia repair are abdominal pain, bleeding , swelling around that area or bleeding. If you suspect, please call or see your surgeon.

Umbilical swelling: that will not resolve, is discolored, is enlarging or hard.is a good time to revisit your physician.

: Many people have this as an incidental finding. If there are no signs and symptoms nothing needs to be done. Just be careful about lifting heavy objects and sudden strains.

how do i know if my umbilical hernia has strangulated?

See below: Incarcerated hernia means it is not reducible (unable to push it back). Strangulation happens when blood supply to herniated organs is cut off. It is a very serious problem and can lead to gangrene within hours (needs emergent surgical intervention). When a hernia is strangulated the pain increases and gets worse over time. At late stages there might be redness of the skin overlying the hernia.

Possibly: the weight gain may have thinned the skin and allowed it to become irritated more easily as well as put more pressure on it from the hernia. Need to see a surgeon now for evaluation and to prevent infection or involvement of the hernia itself.

was told i have an umbilical hernia about a year ago currently i have no bulging or much pain i have had very loose bowls for about 2 weeks food seems to goes right through me could it be strangulated?

No: If it was strangulated you would be in a lot of pain.
