Variable: If its a small hernia that only contains fat, the chances of  having strangulated bowel are close to zero. If there is bowel i. The hernia now, the odds go way up, but this is also dependent in how big the hernia defect is. We think the risk is higher for smaller hernias. Constipation.: You have chronic constipation due to several reasons.  Make sure you are not overdose on narcotics or any medications that has side effects of constipation.  You can try citrucel or fibercon (these are fiber supplements) and drink adequate amt of water.  If this doesn't help, try MiraLAX (otc, one tablespoon in 8 oz of water daily or bid).  If no improve, see your GI doc.  Others: amitiza, (lubiprostone) linzess.

Accepted Answer

It depends: On disease location and severity.  Mild colitis responds well to mesalamine, while moderate to severe colitis, or Crohn's disease require either an immunomodulator like mercaptopurine or methotrexate, or a biologic medication like Remicade, (infliximab) Humira, or Entyvio.

Yes: There are meds which help irritable bowel syndrome. The ones you listed help the diarrhea but do not address the underlying cause.

Various: Much is being learned about irritable bowel syndrome and the best ways to treat it. There are fda approved drugs available to treat the symptoms, but you should see a specialist in GI to help guide your therapy. There is no "one size fits all" treatment for ibs.

The only miracle: Medication is proper diet and fluids, regular meal times, and uniform quantities of food at each meal time, stress free meal times.

Yes: Laxatives can affect the absorption of some medications.  Warfarin, antibiotics, and heart medications  can  be affected by laxatives.

what are some really good medications for irritable bowel syndrome. i live on the toilet and am always in so much pain. i'm on librax (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide) but not working!

IBS: There are several things to be done for this problem. Many antispasmodics may help. Sometimes meds for reducing nervousness will help. Every case is different so best advice is to see a gastroenterologist who treats ibs and you may have to try several things to see which one helps. Hyoscyamine or Dicyclomine are for spasms. Buspirone may help the nervous stomach.

diagnosed /crohns in 2014. never put on any medication? now 2023 in the past 4 years i have had 3 bowel obstruction. 1st treated with ng tube and in hospital. 2nd and 3rd. emergency surgery within 5 months. now told skyrizi is it to late for meds?

: It is not too late for meds for your Crohn’s disease to decrease inflammation and hopefully prevent further damage. You should be treated by.a GI doctor so that the best treatment for your disease can be given and you can be closely monitored for side effects as well as disease effects. Good luck!

i had surgery on monday on my knee and i finally had a bowel movement but there was mucus in the stool. i have been on pain medications?

The effects: of the ANESTHESIA and PAIN medications are the "culprits!

DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS!
and be patient!!!!
