Try taking mucinex (guaifenesin) : Dm, do slow deep breathing, make it a habit to spit up phlegm, chew cough drops, steam inhalation. Follow up with your dr for worsening of symptoms. Best wishes!

Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

i have stopped smoking now for 4 days and have developed a cough with a lot of phlegm also a runny nose and sneezing a lot so what would help?

THIS IS NORMAL: and congrats on quitting. Our respiratory system is lined with cells that contain tiny hairs that produce mucus which is designed to keep our air passages clear of particles, pollution and assorted other junk we breathe in. Tobacco smoke paralyzes these cells, but when you quit, they start working again to clean out all the junk. These symptoms are signs of a good thing. Stay hydrated &amp; stay quit.

Smoking cessation: It’s not uncommon to have increased coughing after smoking cessation. It is because years of tar build-up is loosening and must be expelled from the lungs. Cigarette smoking destroys tiny hair-like projections lining the respiratory tract called cilia. When you quit smoking, the cilia need to repair and regenerate themselves. Coughing is often due to the reemerging cilia. But you should see a doc.

Now that you have stopped, your cilia have started to do their job of clearing out all of the tars & other gunk that has accumulated.This is a temporary phase.You can see a doctor to make sure there's no infection.Congrats!

See a doctor: The symptoms might be caused by irritation of your airways or lung tissue, but might also represent an infection of the airways (bronchitis) or lungs (pneumonia).  It is best to see a doctor as soon as possible.  If you develop difficulty breathing in the meantime it would be best to go to the ER.  Good luck!

Withdrawals: You would most likely have withdrawal symptoms like achiness, irritability and trouble sleeping.  This is what is referred to as "cold turkey" and it can vary tremendously in patients from how much they smoke before quitting and their own sensitivity. You might want to consider having your doctor prescribe a medicine like Chantix or wellbutrin (bupropion) to help or use a nicotine sustitute to help.

While worry: Is an utter waste of time, risk is more dependent on how long you smoked and how much (>10 pack years?), yet risk diminshes substantially with each passing year.

Not any more: Should not be any additional tar build-up in your lungs any more. A lot of the damage that has been done already cannot be reversed. But you did the best thing, keep up with it!
