hi, i have done 2 seperate fob tests. the first 3 one was positive and the second test all 3 were negative. i have hemerrhoids. i dont have any other symptoms. loose stools everyday, go regularly once a day. no change in habit. anything serious?

: Occult blood test is not a sensitive test so when one test is positive, the presence of blood in stool is confirmed. If you do not have active hemorrhoid bleeding, we can't blame the positive test to the hemorrhoid. Most of the time, people with positive FOB test are asymptomatic. So your doctor has to decide if you need further investigation such as colonoscopy or virtual colonoscopy. Good luck.

: If you do not drink enough fluids during your respiratory illness it could result in hard stools/constipation.  To stay well hydrated drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless.

why is my stool mushy and smelly and changes colour all the time and it has been nearly a year now?

Mushy,smelly,color : In my experience,smelly stools don't provide any diagnostic help. However, high fat foods can make stools yellowish, soft and foul smelling. White,clay colored stool may be a sign of failure of liver to release bile salts into fecal matter in the intestines or bile blockage.Black stool is a sign of upper gi tract bleeding. Green stool means feces moving too fast through the gi tract to turn Brown.

i've been stooling for the past 2 days very regularly. should i get a check up or will this just pass by?

It depends...: I assume you mean that you are having diarrhea, or loose stools.  If so, as long as you are able to drink enough to stay hydrated, are not having bloody diarrhea, and you are otherwise feeling well, you can certainly give it a few more days.  If you are having high fevers, bloody diarrhea, persistent vomiting, or any other concerns, you should see a doctor.

Diets effect stools: Diets such as those high in lactose, alcohol, rich and spicy foods, coffee &amp; magnesium can cause loose stools. Diets such as those low in water and fiber can cause constipation. If such changes happen rarely it's probably not cause for concern. Try to eat a balanced diet with adequate fruit &amp; veggies &amp; water. Regular exercise is also advisable. And make certain you have regular medical check-ups!

Need to see a doctor: Soft stools which are dark (assuming by dark you mean more on the black side than brown), can be sue to bleeding in the upper intestinal track (stomach).  Change in diet and other conditions can do this. Be sure to see your doctor.

Can happen: This can happen. Usually due to changes in diet.  If you are consistently taking a fiber supplement, then less likely.  You should consider regular fiber in the diet and more water intake.
It's best to discuss significant changes with your physician.  May want to consider colonoscopy if you are adult age.

Green (blue+yellow =green)poop can be seen with excess green leafy vegetables (chlorophyll), excess iron, artificial food dyes (ice cream, cake frosting, liquorice candy, etc). Less often by excess bile. Blue poop most often also related to food dyes (e.g. Blue curaçao, grape soda). Re-evaluate diet.

Irregular intake of fiber containing foods, spicy foods, fluids, physical activity, hormonal status, medications, various carbohydrates,  fat,  type of protein, etc.  Affect bowel frequency, consistency of stool, associated symptoms like gas.
