Need to see your Dr: Acute vomiting and diarrhea is usually due to a viral gastroenteritis but it's unusual for symptoms to last more than 1-2 weeks. You need to see your physician for stool cultures for enteric pathogens (bacteria that can cause gastroenteritis) and ova and parasites (some parasites such as Giardia)can cause these symptoms.

Usually: gastrointestinal, or solely intestinal inflammation is a function of the autonomic nervous system without clear explanation.  Next, are viral etiologies then finally bacterial.  You likely have a viral enteritis and the contagious period can last 7-10 days after your symptoms resolve.  Sounds like you are doing the right thing but using the bathroom so long as your personal hygiene is good, is OK.

Sounds like it: You're likely correct.  For a stomach virus, it's important to maintain hydration (water, sports drinks) and eat a very bland diet as tolerated. Look up the "BRAT" diet. Certainly avoid dairy.  As long as there's no fever, it's ok to use loperamide (Imodium) to suppress symptoms. Wash hands frequently and don't share food/glasses etc. See a doc if dehydration or 3 days without improvement.

To put the stomach to relative rest; eat bland foods (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast). You may also consider other stomach soothers and Imodium (loperamide) ad if diarrhea is prominent. If vomiting symptoms are not quieting, you may need to see your fp for suppositories so you can maintain oral rehydration!
