Not likely: Gastrointestinal illnesses, especially mild ones,  may cause enlargement of lymph nodes deep inside the abdomen, but would not be expected to cause lymph node enlargement in places which can be seen or examined easily.  Persistent  new lumps anywhere warrant medical assessment.

Need to see your Dr: Acute vomiting and diarrhea is usually due to a viral gastroenteritis but it's unusual for symptoms to last more than 1-2 weeks. You need to see your physician for stool cultures for enteric pathogens (bacteria that can cause gastroenteritis) and ova and parasites (some parasites such as Giardia)can cause these symptoms.

Not necessarily: Some types of viruses cause nausea and vomiting only, some cause diarrhea too. Sometimes the symptoms come all at once, sometimes they are delayed. It's really impossible to predict. Probably virus: Some viral infections last 24 hours, others 1 week. Sometimes the virus is cleared, but symptoms linger at a lower intensity and frequency for weeks to months. Symptoms lasting longer than 2 to 4 weeks should be evaluated by a health care provider.

Usually: gastrointestinal, or solely intestinal inflammation is a function of the autonomic nervous system without clear explanation.  Next, are viral etiologies then finally bacterial.  You likely have a viral enteritis and the contagious period can last 7-10 days after your symptoms resolve.  Sounds like you are doing the right thing but using the bathroom so long as your personal hygiene is good, is OK.

my wife and kids have been throwing up and have diarreha off and on for the past 24-36 hours.  thinking they have some sort of stomach flu/ virus.  is there anything they can take or do?  and, what can i take to ensure i don't get it?  thanks.

Sounds like it: You're likely correct.  For a stomach virus, it's important to maintain hydration (water, sports drinks) and eat a very bland diet as tolerated. Look up the "BRAT" diet. Certainly avoid dairy.  As long as there's no fever, it's ok to use loperamide (Imodium) to suppress symptoms. Wash hands frequently and don't share food/glasses etc. See a doc if dehydration or 3 days without improvement.

Likely this is fine-: Most likely this is the continuing loose stools that can happen after AGE.  As long as there is no blood, mucus or clay color, this may last for 7-10 days.

Possible: If you start with a viral illness, the bacterial flora of the gut (good bacteria normally there) can get thrown off balance.  Also h.Pylori bacteria can cause reflux issues.  Probiotics as well as otc medications for reflux can be helpful.  If symptoms last more than 2 wks, see your family physician.

More info please: Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort?--what are your symptoms &/or what medicine concerns you? Even "functional" syndromes may be present without underlying "disease." if pain with meals consider peptic (acid), biliary, or pancreatic disease. Bleeding or tenderness suggests inflammation, ischemia, or infection. Exquisite tenderness is quite concerning. Drug reaction should resolve on stopping rx.
