Blood test/ EGD: Stomach ulcers have to be seen to be truly diagnosed- an upper endoscopy will help see these the best. As for pancreatitis- simple blood test called lipase and amylase can detect inflammation of pancreas and a ct scan can see the inflamed pancreas.  If you are concerned about having these problems- then avoid alcohol and go see your doctor.  Certain otc meds like prilosec/prevacid can help w ulcer.

hospitalized 9 days now with pancreatitis. yesterday started feeding me with a ng tube and am unable to tolerate it. what's the next step up from a ng tube?

Pancreatitis: Most patients with acute pancreatitis are eating,first liquids and then soft solids, well before 9 days unless there are complicating factors present causing ongoing inflammation,abscess,or obstruction. Your hospital physician,who knows all the facts, is obviously best qualified to answer your question. You can also receive nutrition with certain substances given through an IV.

Chronic pancreatitis: Interesting question.  Chronic pancreatitis per se does not cause gastric ulcers, but the level of physiologic stress caused by the disease can certainly be a causative  factor.  Judging by your history of chronic pancreatitis, abdominal pain and diarrhea you should be on some form of gastric acid blocker such as Omeprazole and also pancreatic enzyme supplements.

Low fat diet: Low fat diet for sure. Sometimes you have to do gut rest by fasting or drinking water when there is a flare up. Try to enroll in a clinical trial at an academic center. You will need pain medication for your pain.

very mild stomach discomfort just under left side of ribs for more than a week. can this be pancreatitis? the discomfort doesn't get worse and its my only symptom. i keep pressing the area so perhaps i'm just catastrophizing. should i be concerned?

: Hi:
Typically the pain from pancreatitis is more in the middle and radiates to the back as its classic symptom.  Your left sided mild pain is less likely pancreatitis, but if it's still not better, you should see a doctor about it to make you feel better.

Perhaps: Need to see your doc/gastroenterologist. Symptoms could be related to liver, pancreas, or other causes.

i've had my gallbladder removed and before that i had an ercp and ended up getting pancreatitis, i'm still having stomach pains, is this normal ?

Can be: I would expect you to have occasional discomfort for several weeks after all of this.  If no resultion follow up with your surgeon and gastroenterologist !

i've chronic pancreatitis. having serious gas problems. i feel heavy pain on my upper abdomen. my stomach feels heavy & filled with gas. now what?

Enzyme replacement: Often enzyme replacement (pancrease, lipase, etc) will decrease these sorts of symptoms.  If you are taking replacement enzymes and still have these problems, you might try otc anti-gas preparations with simethicone.  If still no improvement check with health care provider.
