Depends: If it is a fresh cut (lac) and when you close (approximate) the edges the are better held together than without tension. Often we use a butterfly bandage or steri-strips on fingers and small lacs. Make sure it's clean and tetanus up to date.

Mgt: If the cut is open and not healing well,  then I would advise having it checked. There are steri strips which  can help to close the edges of the wound. Neosporin can be used after the area is cleaned gently to decrease healing time.

Hand surgeon: May be more complicated after initial attempt at closure, so should see an expert (=hand surgeon).

Superficial skin: Injury to his fingertips involving a fin slice of skin that is just hanging by a small thread certainly can be removed however if it's only a partial injury then often stitching is better as it will heal faster sometimes the very edge of a skin flap can't be stitched but provides a little bit of soft tissue protection. The main thing is to make sure there's no bone injury.   And avoid infection.

Probably not: If her shots are up to date, then no. She gets a dtap vaccine at the 2, 4 and 6 mo visits, and the "t" in that is the tetanus vaccine. So she should be up to date. Keep it clean and practice good wound care. Wash with soap and water.

See MD bring to ER: Bring your child to the ER for an evaluation. Anytime there is a laceration, make sure you visit an MD immediately. Rule out damage to blood vessels, nerves, infection, fracture. Good luck.
