i'm a lpn .. was injured by pt in aug. 11.  punch to sternum resulted in costochondral sep. of 2nd rib. misdiagnosed..now chronic. what treatment now

Difficult: Non-union of costochondral separation is a difficult problem. Has enough time passed (weeks) to allow spontaneous union?  Was rib belt stabilization attempted?  If problem has become chronic (over three months) and remains symptomatic, then prolotherapy can be investigated.  Be aware that many doctors are ignorant as to what prolo is & yet, mysteriously, have uninformed & strong negative opinions.

Yes, any kind: of chest pain is concern for angina or some other serious condition such as pulmonary embolism.  Have your doctor check it out.

OK: Your sternum has healed to almost full strength.  You can start a punching bag routine.  You will probably develop some chest wall or muscle pain as you start the exercise - because you haven't used your muscles to this extent since the operation.  Listen to your body and start gradually and workup to the level that you performed prior to surgery.

Spine nerve irritate: Spinal nerve root irritation always causes muscle spasms.  If the pain is primarily due to nerve damage, there are symptoms of pins and needles, numbness, burning,  shooting and sharp pains.  If  the pain is due to nerve irritation with predominant muscle spasm, the pain is usually aching, cramping, dull, and the muscles are stiff and tight.You will need to be evaluated by your family doctor and a.

Chest Trauma: You might have a deep contusion in Sternum or ribs.You can take over the counter pain meds for pain.But if pain persists get it checked because if you were hit rather very hard with a closed fist,it can cause fracture .

: Baby is testing you. I would not allow this. Immediately tell him NO/HURT and punch him, not to injure him but with enough force it will hurt some. We treat our new babes like kings, doing everything for them until they begin to develop mobility and self- help skills. At some point they all get confused when we don't immediately do everything the "King" wants. You must set limits on their behavior

You can develop pain at the origins of the muscles bellies at the anterior chest wall, the sternum and costochondral junctions with the ribs, as well as the clavicle. This type of muscle soreness should rapidly subside with appropriate rest, ice, and nsaids. Waxing and waning deep chest pain requires md eval for heart concerns.
