can a painless pea size swollen inguinal lymph node be a sign of a std? if so which ones and how common is this? anything to worry about?

Accepted Answer

Depends on other : symptoms, and exposure to STD's from your partner(s), and whether or not you have been tested for any of them already. Also if there's any accompanying chills or fever. It does not necessarily by itself mean that it is an STD. So call your GYN, and have it examined in person. That will alleviate any worry.

? legs ?: These nodes will often swell after bug bites or other issues as distant as your toes on the leg of the involved nodes. They can swell to near tissue issues like the close skin or genitals, but these nodes are screening centers for   other areas. A small scratch by a kitten or other agent, could trigger a response.

Possibly: I would definitely get checked out by your gynecologist.  These symptoms might suggest an infection or pid.  Better to get it checked out to make sure you're ok.

Groin lymph nodes: Don't panic. These nodes are usually the largest in the body because they are located in an area that isn't clean and they have to manage a lot of activity. If they don't hurt and you don't have any new symptoms (vaginal discharge or foul odor), then just keep an eye on it/them. If painful or not going away, you can show a doctor.

Maybe both: In groin might be hernia or lymph node or abscess. The hernia, if that, should be reducible (be able to be pushed in). A lymph node should have sharp borders and be movable. An abscess probably most painful without sharp borders. If not sure go see your doc!

Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria, viruses, cancers, etc.  When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

Surgery: This is where a small surgical incision is made and the lymph node is dissected out and removed or at least a portion of the lymph node is cut out and sent for testing and cultures.  This is not as commonly done with inguinal nodes as it is for nodes in other areas.

Not usually: There are many reasons for inguinal node enlargement and cervical cancer is low on this list. If you are healthy otherwise. give it a couple more weeks to see how they progress.  If you have lower abdominal or genital problems, you will need to see your doctor.
