hello! i have a fishy/musty odor around my labia and clit but not inside of my vagina opening what could be the cause? i bathe twice a day and i got checked for stds a week ago everything was negative. im taking meds for rheumatoid arthritis?

: In the absence of a vaginal discharge or any evidence of a vulval bacterial or fungal infection, I would disregard this odor as anything significant. If you still have concerns, consult your gynecologist.

i was cleared for bv, thrush and all sti's/std's but still have a fishy odour which was believed to be bv. what else can be causin the fishy odour?

Were you treated?: I am not clear into what it means cleared from STD's. Do you mean you were treated or that there tests were negative? In any case BV is not necessarily an STD. Usually causes a fishy odor. If you were treated it might be that the antibiotics used did not work so you might need alternative. If you have not been treated then make sure you get seen.

STD's: I don't know what is causing your vaginal odor. However chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis can cause malodorous  vaginal discharge.

Bladder infection: Foul-smelling urine can come from a bladder infection or even from certain foods that we eat. Stds do not usually effect the bladder and i wouldn't think they are responsible for the foul-smelling urine. More than likely it is from a bladder infection. Vaginal infections can sometimes have an odor as well and may be difficult to distinguish from odor caused by urine.

Here are some...: Foul-odored vaginal discharge suggests BV or STD-related vaginitis, usually being bacterial, chlamydia, trichomonas, etc. But, clinically it doesn't matter because you need to be treated and followed anyway.  More? Ask the treating doctor timely so to get right Dx for right Rx, care, and counseling for the present and the future.

Something else: The most common symptoms of endometriosis are painful menses, pain during sex, pelvic pain, or infertility. There are other possible symptoms, such as constipation or diarrhea. I would consider other possibilities for your vaginal odor, such as bacterial vaginosis (bv). With bv, the odor may be worse after sex and during menses.

Bacterial vaginosis?: The main cause of strong and/or fishy vaginal odor is bacterial vaginosis, caused by overgrowth of mostly normal bacteria. STDs are more common in women with BV, so it's good to know those tests were negative. However, trichomonais (another STD) also causes fishy odor and is easy to miss on routine testing. Return to your doctor; you need an antibiotic prescription, probably metronidazole.

Fishy odor: A fishy odor to vaginal secretions is a classic symptom of bacterial vaginosis which is not an STD. It happens when the normal peroxidase positive lactobicillus are lost and anaerobic bacteria over grow in the vagina and it is the most common vaginal infection. Douching does not help and can even cause it. See your PCP or GYN for evaluation and treatment. Hope this helps.

You need STD check! : You need an std check now! birth control pills don't prevent infections. An std check one year ago does not mean you are infection-free. You have symptoms of a vaginal infection called bacterial vaginosis which is easily diagnosed with a pap test and easily treated with antibiotics. You need to be checked for other stds too. Never have sex without condoms or other barrier protection.

Pregnancy Discharge: An increased discharge is common in pregnancy.  Sometimes it has some color to it.  If it doesn't itch or have an odor its less likely to be anything bad, but mention it to your Ob at your next office visit.  If it gets an odor or starts to itch, you should have an exam to find out what it is.  Best wishes!
