Benign: The key is that despite the fact that you have reflux and are probably going to be more comfortable when you are effectively treated, we did not see precancerous change.

Usually not: Skin lesions that "blanch" mean the color goes out of them when you press a glass slide on the lesion. This occurs in lesions that get their color from blood supply. Usually skin cancers don't blanch. Squamous cell carcinomas are usually scaly and basal cell carcinomas look like a nodule with a little bite out of the center.  Blanching or not, the only way to tell for sure is a biopsy.

Different cell types: Squamous cell carcinomas are worse than basal cell carcinomas.  Squamous cell carcinomas can metastasize where as basal cell carcinomas very rarely do.  Both types occur more in sun exposed areas.

Different origins: Skin cancers are named for the type of skin cell that they develop from.  A basal cell is generally a less dangerous tumor unless it is near an opening such as the nose, eye or ear.  The squamous cell is more serious, requires a more aggressive surgical removal, and will sometimes spread inside the body (metastasize).

Common skin cancers: Basal cell followed by squamous Ca are the more common skin lesions.  Bas=al cell almost never metastasizes compared to sqaumous cell Ca where if left will eventaujally spread to regional nodes.  Early treatment for both is with Efudex (fluorouracil) (5FU) cream. When squamous is aggressive it can be removed by Mohs paste.  Should nodal spread occur with squamous CA surgery followed by RT may be necessary.

Whoa: It is not good to treat any suspected true cancer just by spraying with liquid nitrogen. It's more appropriate for an actinic keratosis. Get seen by another practitioner.

No: No extra risk. Even if there were, both cancer types are only dangerous if you've ignored them badly.

3 skin cancers: These are the three most common cancers to arise in skin.  Basal cell carcinoma will kill only by invading a deep structure such as the brain. Squamous skin cancers tend to be slow and spread late. Melanomas are extremely treacherous and hated. All often but not always result from lots of sunlight.
