Eval: There are many possible reasons for bleeding during /after sexual intercourse. **  menopausal women may have atrophic vaginitis with decreased vaginal secretions & thinning of vaginal mucosa. ** some sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia, gonorrhea, or trichomoiasis  ** endometritis.** endometriosis** adenomyosis**erosion (inflammation) of the cervix ** uterine polyps**

Get this checked: Light bleeding after sex may mean a problem, or may be ok, if you have external gland cells on the cervix or some other type of irritation of these areas. 
Not to alarm you, but this can also be a sign of trouble, like abnormal cells( even precancer) on the cervix, or a std.
Bottom line, if this is a new thing, see your gyno and get some tests..

Not likely: An ovarian cyst would not be a reason for vaginal spotting after intercourse. The spotting may not be a sign of any medical problem, but it might be related to a vaginal infection or even cervical dysplasia (pre-cancer changes). It's worth getting checked out.

Most commonly: If you have spotting after sex it suggest that the act of sex is irritating a susceptible area.  This is most commonly the cervix.  So it would be prudent if you saw your gynecologist or primary care so that they can examine your vagina/cervix for any lesions that may be susceptible to bleeding when physically irritated during sex. Depo provera (medroxyprogesterone): Depo-provera can affect menstrual bleeding. After a year of use, 55% of women experience amenorrhoea; after 2 years, the rate rises to 68%. In the first months of use "irregular or unpredictable bleeding or spotting, or rarely, heavy or continuous bleeding" was reported.  If this does not apply to you, check with your gynecologist.
