ive been spotting 5 days after my period ends for the last 3 cycles. this time ive had mild cramping with spotting.it is dark red/brown lasting for 9 days. i have had an endometrial biopsy, transvaginal ultrasound, pap smear. could this be hormonal?

: Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.

It happens sometimes: Many women have occasional variation of their mucus discharge, some spotting between periods, a heavier period, a lighter period, a longer or shorter period, or even a missed period.  Having one or two of these symptoms doesn’t necessarily mean there is a medical problem, but a call to one’s primary care or Ob-Gyn doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent, recurring, or worrisome.

:  Blood spotting after a menstrual cycle, especially if you’ve already had a period, may occur if the uterus didn’t flush its inner lining entirely. It could also be due to stress, a change in meds, a hormone imbalance, or vaginal dryness.  It could also be due to fibroids, polyps, or endometriosis.  Always good to have an exam by your primary doctor, or OBGyn, if you are concerned.
