Cracks: May be what's called angular chelitis (google it).  your hormonal swings may facilitate the problem.  Try taking once daily B-complex vitamins for two months and see if that helps.  If not, talk to your Gynecologist about hormone levels.

Angular chelitis: You can apply an otc triple antibiotic ointment or other skin protectant to the area.  This problem is sometimes related to a b-vitamin or iron deficiency, so do consider those as underlying causes and speak to your doctor if you are concerned.

Zinc deficiency and others.

Your child's pediatrician will be able to tell you if this is what your child is dealing with, or if there is another cause. In the meantime make sure your child's day care practice good hygiene and isolates sick children.
