Mucus: Consult with your doctor. You may have a sinus infection or you are having a reaction to the nasal spray you are using.

Mucus or saliva: Is it coming from the mouth or down your throat ? Do you cough or just spit ? Are you on medication ? There are medications that make you hyper-salivate . If you can give us more information and clarify your symptoms , we can help better.

Many Possibilities: Spit up (from mouth) or cough up (from lungs)?  Very different and important.  If cough: you need to see an md and have this worked-up.  Possibilites range from no big deal to very serious problems such as TB or malignancy.  From mouth, see your dentist.

Infection?: It could be an infection, though if you smoke, or ever have smoked, you could be coughing up small tobacco particles.  You could benefit from a sputum culture, so see your family doctor.

Mucous: Colored mucous can be a sign of infection - bacterial or viral.  If running fever, are not improving or having difficulty breathing - follow with your physician to see if you need an antibiotic.

Productive cough: Productive cough of large amounts of phlegm esp early in the morning  is  characteristic for bronchiectasis. It might be chronic bronchitis as well esp if there is a long history of smoking. This needs to be evaluated by a specialist.

Get it checked.: Blood from any body site is a danger signal and should be checked.  However in your case it may be from inflamed nasal passages with post nasal drip, inflamed gumbs, inflamed tonsils etc but you would most likely have symptoms.  This is definitely something you should discuss with your doctor. Please get checked by  your physician!

Oh, : Oh, i answered earlier but i didn't have this info.  Smoking can cause mucus black tinged mucus. There is mucus through out our respiratory system. It grabs on to germs, dust, chemicals and things like particles we inspire from tobacco. The mucus than gets pushed along out of our system. I hope that this is a motivation for you to quit. If this continues, recommend that you see your doctor for a thorough evaluation.

Spit in mucus smoker: No it is not cause for concern if there is no blood in it.Smoking causes irritatin of the inner lining of bronchi and that produces phlegm or mucus and most smokers have that in the morning and some throughout the day.It is a good idea to stop smoking as you are only 30 years old.So good decision and stay of the cigarettes.

Some possibilities: Some people spit because they picked up the habit and haven't stopped it. In other cases, there is a medical problem such as post-nasal drip mucus from the nose and sinuses. In more worrisome cases, there is a throat problem or lung problem, such as infection or cancer. It may take visits to one's primary care doctor plus an ENT doctor to figure out if there is a medical problem needing attention.
