i had bronchitis last january. i am spitting blood right now when i cough. what could it be?

See doctor...: Coughing up blood, called hemoptysis, is usually due to bronchitis. However, it can also be due to malignancy. So, you need to see your doctor to rule out malignancy and treat the underlying disorder. The bronchitis from last january may be unrelated. If you are a smoker, you need to quit to decrease airway inflammation. If you are short of breath or coughing a lot of blood, go to the er.

Prob NL recovery: This is prob normal.  Your scabs on your tonsils are drying up &amp; sloughing at about this time into your recovery.  So minor bleeding is OK.  Watch for sig bleeding though.  Any sig bright red bleeding or pumping blood is an emergency.  Get to the ER ASAP if you see that kind of sig bleeding.  Eat a soft diet - nothing that could scratch your scabs.  And you could gently swish &amp; swallow ice water.

Almost never: Hemoptysis can occur in advanced cases of rheumatic heart disease with mitral stenosis. It's very rare. It is much more likely that you're spitting blood from a bronchial cause. The commonest cause is acute bronchitis and is benign.

Bleeding gums: You could have bleeding gums which can often be present without pain. I would begin by seeing your dentist. IN ANY CASE your symptoms are not normal and you must get the bleeding tracked down!

Urgent: Vomiting blood can be very serious also black material partially digested so been bleeding for awhile. May be ulcer swallowed blood from nose bleed. Visit your emergency department today.
