Sure: A patient on PRIME can get a referral to a particular doctor or a particular specialty, which means the PRIME doctor recommends that the patient go get evaluated by a certain doctor or specialty. Because PRIME is outside the commercial insurance system, there are no phone calls, faxes, or paperwork when the PRIME doctor refers a patient (insurers might treat a PRIME referral as a "self-referral").

Call your Dr.: Most Dr's will write notes excusing work even if they are based on previous exams/visits. Call their office and explain that you need a note excusing you from work. They may wish to see you again to further treat the pain, or may write the note and leave it for you at the front desk to pick up.

Work with his pediatrician to decide whether or not he is normal ("normal" comes in many varieties) or is acting oddly. Referral to a Developmental Pediatrician can be done.
