most days, only the left side of my head spasms a bit. there's no pain with it. it just tends to get rather annoying.

See your physician: These symptoms may represent a headache (even though you say there is no pain), seizure, other neurological condition, or scalp muscle spasm. my 8mo old has a p.t. appt for torticollis. not really bad he can turn head but still favors one side.what can i do @ home in the mean time, appt 2wks?

Work on it at home: Have pt see him sooner and have them train you on what to do at home to help.This should improve with good phy therapy. See someone who has done this before.Also. You can help with the therapy as well. Good luck.

Torticollis: Congenital torticollis is usually treated with physical therapy. If pt fails surgery may be indicated.

Is it twitching?: Is this twitich or spasm? Inner ear infection can cause inflamation around the vii cranial nerve; the facial nerve this can casue twitching.  This should be evaluated.

Drooling effect: Two problems are seen in children with torticollis: plagiocephaly and facial irritation.  When on their back one side of the skull flattens.  When on their front, one side of face gets irritated.  Need to continue to reposition and watch and allow to adjust.

Birth trauma...etc.: Congenital torticollis is thought to be due to injury of the sternocleidomastoid muscle during birth or during the baby's time in the womb. The exact cause is unclear, however. It manifests in infancy but may not be diagnosed until adolescence or even adulthood.

is it possible to have torticollis without a noticeable head tilt? all of the symptoms except for that one match, and my scm looks bigger on one side.

TORTICOLLIS: Is the stiffness of the neck due to improper position .There is a head tilt depending on the severity of the muscle stffness and a  muscle bulge of your scm.

Spasm: You could have spasmodic torticollis. A MRI of the neck would be in order.

Reason often unknown: Selecting one side only is not unusual but frustrating.  If your baby keeps his head tilted or refuses to rotate completely from side to side, this may be reason.  If you have a low grade infection in breast or plugged ducts, it may affect the taste of the milk or "let down" may not be as effective on L side.  Try football hold, keeping b's head on the R, as if he were still on the R breast.
