Many possibilities: The set of symptoms you are describing could be due to many different illnesses with many different causes.  If this does not clear up quickl;y a visit to a doctor may be in order.

Viral infection: This sounds very typical of several viral illnesses.  Adenovirus, Coxsackievirus Virus, Epstein Bar Virus and several others.  Hang in there, I hope you feel better soon.

hi, i have had a sore throat for about one week and a half.  i also have this red like patch on the right side of the tip of my tongue.

Has to be seen: The only way to know what that "red like patch" is, is to be seen by a general dentist, oral surgeon, or a physician.  This may or may not be related to the sore throat. Even if we saw a photo of that patch, it's only part of the picture as we often need to actually see you.

Repeated sore throat: Well it is worth looking into, because sore throats can be severe.  My first question is whether any of them have been identified as 'Strep' - because if so, you may need a tonsillectomy for recurrent infections. Another Q is 'are you getting enough sleep'? I notice you're young and u probably skimp on that. Sleep restores the immune system - so I highly recommend that. Would get a doc to check u.

Dry mouth: Can be due to aging, change in meds, change in vitamins/supplements, change in foods, change of life, onset of systemic diseases such as diabetes, neurological changes, and so many other things. See your Dentist for fun examination and for a discussion of ways to combat dry mouth. See your Physician for physical examination and appropriate lab tests.

Probably virus: Your description is that of a typical viral pharyngitis. If the sore throat persists longer than two more weeks, then take him back to the doctor.  Seems as though the doctor did all that is indicated in this case from your brief description.

What?: The sore throat could be a cold or upper respiratory infection. Looks like you are on Zithromax, so that should help.  If the sore throat continues, see your doctor, as  some STDs can cause sore throats, and I see you were treated for STD.  I'm not sure what you mean by R lyric is swollen?  Ask again with more details and we'll try to answer.  Good luck!

what could this be? for the past month i have been getting random sore throats. they last about a week approx. all get one, then it will go way, then a couple days later i get it again. i am on the 4th sore throat the past month and a quarter. please help

There : There are numerous causes for sore throats.  The most common would be recurrent infections (like tonsillitis) or acid reflux disease (gerd).  Many people think that because they don't have heartburn, they cannot have gerd, but this isn't true.  Chronic sore throat, especially when you don't feel particularly sick, can be a sign of gerd. Other potential causes would include chronic mouth breathing from nasal congestion.

Your first step should be to your pcp to see if you have a throat infection.  Assuming nothing is there, you may talk about gerd.  Other symptoms of gerd include throat clearing, cough (especially at night), post-nasal drip or phlegm problems, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, and obviously heartburn.
