what medicine would help a severe sore throat? i can't breathe swallow or it hurts real bad. i also have nasual congestion to. i have a hard cough to.

SORE  throat suggest: Hydrate, lozenges especially cepacol which has mild anesthetic properties, tylenol, (acetaminophen) advil, throat coat tea are suggestions. If fever, large lymph glands, or infected looking tonsils then get culture for strep. With other symptoms most likely viral. Since you're on humera more likely to get bacterial infection so if not better soon see md. Consider mononucleosis.Severe pain-narcotics, Lidocaine gel.

See a doctor: If you're sore throat is so bad that you cannot swallow anything, you should be seen by a doctor to evaluate.

If antibiotics R not: helping, there could B 2 reasons, viral infection or wrong antibiotic. If there was a culture done B4 antibiotics, a switch may B indicated. A culture done now may help but not as reliable after antibiotics.

Med evaluation: If you have a significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see your medical provider ; get a strep throat test ; culture. Saltwater gargles are helpful. Mix a tsp of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle w this several times/day. You can gargle w aloe vera juice a couple of times per day. A mix of chamomile tea w honey ; a small amount of lemon juice is good.

i have a sore throat and i had some lidocaine from the beginning of the year. it said to take 10ml and i didnt completely read the bottle. so i didnt know it was to gargle instead i swallowed! should i be considered right now i just took it?

Tonsillitis or sst: Is this your first time to have this? Look into a mirror and check your tonsils: if inflamed with spots of pus: tonsillitis and you may need antibiotics . If septic sore throat you also need antibiotics for 10 days.
Do see an ear nose throat specialist asap. In the meantime gargle with warm salt solution or listerine and use antiseptic lozenges such as cepacol.

A : A sore throat is a pretty non-specific complaint that can have many causes.  Most commonly, it is caused by a virus and really shouldn't last more than a few days.  A sore throat that persists could be something more serious such as a chronic infection, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and in rare cases, even cancer (especially if you smoke, drink or have been exposed to the hpv virus).  Because of this, it is important that you see your doctor or an otolaryngologist (ear nose and throat specialist) to find the cause of your sore throat so it can be properly and effectively treated.

Dr. can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). Throat lozenges or Tylenol (acetaminophen) may help decrease symptoms.

Globus sensation?: Do you experience the feeling of a ball or lump in the back of your throat that you have to swallow past? If so, this is "globus."  alternatively, you may have laryngo-esophaeal reflux without heartburn. Sometimes, the actual swallowing mechanism may be impaired due to "spasms" or dysmotility. A gastroenterologist or ear-nose-throat specialist is a good starting point for evaluation.

Sausage: Could be mucosal burn. Avoid spicy foods, salt, alcohol, smoking, acidic foods for 7-10 days. Could take anesthetic lozenges. See ENT if persists.
