Sore throat : Is too general but then you can take honey lemon halls, ricolas, drink plenty  of warm liquids with honey lemon or ginger, honey lemon tea, peppermint etc. You need to eat or take those ensure or boost drinks if no appetite for solids. Take a day or two off to get complete bed rest to get yourself back in shape quickly.If no better, condition worsened, see your physician.Flu is going around too

Inflammation: Discomfort in that region may be due  Inflammation in lymph glands, thyroid, muscle or carotid artery with an early viral  throat infection being the most likely and this will run its course in several days without specific treatment. However see your physician if symptoms persist or worsen.

Wait, but watch: Based on what you have said, it does not sound to be an out of hours case right now, but keep close watch.  Increasing fever,  pain, shortness of breath, weakness, vomiting, etc. Could change the decision to wait.  The definition of a fever is a body temperature above 38, so this barely qualifies.    How high is high?  A fever above 39.5 would start to qualify as high.

Can be serious: The symptoms are probably related to infectious mononucleosis. This is caused by infection with epstein barr virus. The virus can affect and in your case in fect the liver causing viral hepatitis and can cause spleenomegaly. There is a slight increase chance of splenic rupture. The eyes are yellow with jaundice decreased functioning liver. This may lead to chirrosis and spontaneous hemmorhaging.
