Hormonal changes: It is possible for women, especially young women to develop breast tenderness and ovarian/uterine cramping due to hormonal changes, despite your menstrual calendar suggesting you are not about to ovulate or menstruate.  I recommend treating these symptoms the same - ibuprofen or naproxen, moist heat on pelvis, sports bra or no bra, and limiting caffeine.  Take care!

: If you are sexually active, and not on oral birth control your symptoms may be due to early pregnancy, so obtain a "home" pregnancy test to be certain, and if positive see your GYN physician for an exam, as pregnancy outside the uterus (ectopic) needs immediate attention.

Pregnancy worries?: For fertile women who are having sex... it can be hard to tell if a woman is pregnant because some of the symptoms seen in early pregnancy can also happen in non-pregnant women. A home urine pregnancy test gives a accurate result. One can test about 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), 1 week after missing a period, or 1 week after starting a "weird" period.

: The morning after pill can give you those symptoms and late period. If you do not have period in 3 days, i.e. missing period for more than a week, you can do pregnancy test by then.

Sore breasts: Reasons for painful breasts (bilateral) can include: cyclic pain before the period, stress, medication changes. Fluctuating hormone levels & pregnancy.  Pain in one breast could be related to a cyst or a fibroadenoma.  Breast cancer would not be a frequent reason for breast pain. Exercise with a bra that is lacking in support is also a possible cause.
