Lung problem: Why would you think you had a lung problem? Unless you have cough, chest pain, or shortness of breath at least with exertion then a significant lung problem is not likely but if you know more than you're telling you need to share that with a physician.

Lungs: Not sure what they saw but one illness that affects the top of the lungs is tuberculosis. Other problems do too, so follow up with your doctor for further tests.

Hard to tell: Sometimes the owrst of coughs are due to irritation as high up as your throat while pneumonia with fluid and infection deep down in your lungs may just make you feet weak and short of breath. You might want to have a doctor have a listen with a stethescope or get a chest x-ray.

Pleurisy or muscle: Lungs actually have few nerve endings within the lung tissue itself.  Most of the nerves are on the outer surface so pain is  usually related to inflammation of the lining of the lung (known as pleurisy) or muscular.

Yes but unlikely...: Cough as a result of the occasional cold virus is unlikely to cause any lung damage. Even the whooping cough in the unvaccinated is unlikely to cause lung damage per se (unless you're a newborn, in which case your risk of death in much greater). Time: Usually lungs feel raw after a viral illness or lots of coughing.  Almost always time will heal them.  Be patient.

Fibrotic lungs: Any process that decreases air in the lungs. This includes pulm fibrosis  , tumors that desrroy alveoli, some severe pneumonias with hepatization of the lung. Pneumoconioses also cause hard lungs.
