Cautious with soma (carisoprodol): Soma (carisoprodol) is a muscle relaxant.  I tend to be very cautious with Soma (carisoprodol) and have never prescribed it for back aches for two reasons 1) there are much better treatment modalities out there 2) it has substantial addiction and abuse potential.  I might continue it if a patient's been on it for years and years from another doc, but will never use it as a first, second, or even third line medication.

It : It is probably true than anyone can have a seizure under the right conditions.  These conditions include poisoning by prescription or recreational drugs, withdrawal from prescription or recreational drugs (including alcohol), brain injuries, general illnesses, and abnormal levels of blood salts (electrolytes -- including sodium).  When people have seizures with provocation, they are not considered to have epilepsy, and usually don't require long term seizure medication.

People who have a tendency to have repeated seizures with little or no provocation have epilepsy.  The diagnosis is made by history, and supported by results from tests like brain-wave recordings (eegs) and brain imaging (usually mri). Epilepsy usually does require long-term use of seizure medications like depakote, or other interventions like epilepsy surgery.

Taking Depakote for a provoked seizure is an unusual clinical approach.  Depakote can be given for other reasons.  Since Depakote use can be accompanied by serious short term and long term side effects, it is important to see a doctor to develop a better understanding for its use in specific cases.

husband is on prozac, soma, zenzedi (stimulant for adhd) and valium. we are looking to conceive. will these medications affect his sperm to cause birth defects?

: Maybe/not. At least in theory men get a pass on many exposures when related to conception/birth defects. Sperm  are generated in the millions and created continuously. Any fraction that are altered tend to be poor swimmers &amp; less likely to make it through the distance to conception than the healthy ones. Women don't get that break as eggs remain subject to any exposure and are limited in number.

Neuromodulators: besides over-the-counter anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen prescription neuromodulators can be used like gabapentin, pregabalin.  accupuncture can help. for medically refractory pain epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency ablation through pain medicine. avoid opioids at all cost.

Depends: on whether they test for it.  In some areas where abuse of carisoprodol is common (and it is one of the drugs that are "pushed" in pill mills (together with alprazolam/xanax) along with opioids.  On routine 7 or 10 panel tests that look for opiates, benzos, cocaine, amphetamine, marijuana, barbiturates, PCP etc) it is NOT tested for. It is, however, a highly abusable and dangerous drug.

Depends: Muscle relaxants are not usually tested for in drug tests.
The common substances tested are alcohol, cannabis, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methaqualone, opioids.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Not likely: Soma (carisoprodol) is not specifically tested for. However, i wonder about the motivation of this question.  Soma (carisoprodol) can be mis-used.  Have a frank discussion with your doctor about it's proper use.  Focus on getting help for your symptoms and not on obtaining a medication.  You are in control of your health. Don't become dependent on a medication.

NA or AA: There's no easy answer. The core belief is that the beginning of this journey to sobriety begins with you - that is, you have to want to stop before you die - and without a full blown miracle you will die. But you are that miracle. Believe in yourself, ask for help if you need it - aa and na are good choices not ers and humbly ask for help. You are worth saving.

No: No, there are two diff categories, and Soma (carisoprodol) will never show up in your urein test as a benzo.
