was clindamycin for 10 days now off it for 4 days and still have soft stool is this normal and how long should it last?

The gastrointestinal: side effects of clindamycin should not last more than 1 week after you have completed treatment.  If you continue to have watery loose stool, especially with worse foul smell, abdominal cramping and/or black color, then you need to get tested for Clostridium difficile colitis which is associated with prolonged use of antibiotics like Clindamycin.  Be sure to use probiotics daily x1 month.

Hemorrhoid s?: If you never had diarrhea i don't think you have to worry that the Clindamycin was directly the problem. If you had round. Hard stool or were straining to have a bowel movement by definition that is constipation even if going every day. Be sure to eat enough fiber, drink enough water, take a stool softener if needed and see your dr if constipation persists. The best otc laxative is likely miralax (polyethylene glycol).

Possibly: I wonder if you may have an yeast infection in your guts. Probiotic may help but works best when taken at the same time when clindamycin was initiated.  Talk to your doctor if problem persists

OK for now: If you develop abdominal pain or fever along with your stool changes, i would talk with your doctor. Taking Clindamycin can increase your risk of developing an intestinal infection caused by c. Difficile.

Medication use : Taking some medications can cause GI changes.  Contact your prescribing doctor if the problem continues.

4-6 weeks: Although you may start seeing results sooner you need to be patient for 4-6 weeks.  You need to be good and follow your doctor's instructions and realize this is not curative but will keep the acne under control.

No testing: There are no testing protocols to diagnose allergy to clindamycin. Therefore, the only way to establish this diagnosis is via oral challenge.

Oral more effective: Oral will enter system much more rapidly. Topical must pass the epidermal barrier and will remain primarily localized. All related to what is prescribed for.

Infectious Disease..: 30 y/o asks Can  Clindamycin treat syphilis? Clindamycin is Not  the 1st line medication for syphilis.  As for people with Penicillin allergy there are other options. If one already has a diagnosis of syphilis, they are encouraged to work closely with their PCP or Infectious Disease Consults for best result.
