Kayex not for BM: Kayexalate (sodium polystyrene sulfonate) is a polystyrene salt resin designed to grab onto the excess  potassium (dangerous for heart) while in the intestine. It is not to facilitate bm-it actually increases chance of constipation. So, if he is not having bm, don't rely on kayex to help with that. He will likely need other stimulant to help with bm--maybe lactullose etc..Consult his doc. Good luck.

: Sodium polystyrene sulfonate is a medication given to people who have too much Potassium in their blood. It does not enter the bloodstream, but travels through the intestines binding to excess potassium. It has not been found to cause any kind of cancer and is not the same as styrene. Adverse effects in older adults have been seen in the intestines such as ischemia, thrombosis, ulceration.

Side effects: Common reactions are nausea and gastric irritation. In serious cases, you could have severely low potassium levels, intestinal obstruction/necrosis, and perforation of the bowel wall.

Possibly...: If the polystyrene has been designated microwave safe, then it most likely is safe.  However, some forms of polystyrene break down more easily than others with heat, and toxins from the plastic might enter the food.  If some other form of cooking than microwave was used that has a higher temperature (such as inadvertent cooking in a frying pan, grill, or oven) then i would not eat the food.

Off label opinion: Would propose that consumption of one or two drinks in 24 hrs would be unlikely to cause severe problems, but Phenytoin is a rather troublesome drug, as has zero order kinetics, and alcohol and Phenytoin can interact, which would create a problem with drug level fluctuation.  Would discuss in further detail with your neurologist.

Depends on condition: Valproate is used to treat Bipolar disease, but also Epilepsy and Migraines. If your son has been diagnosed with Bipolar or Epilepsy, then a consultation ASAP with his prescribing physician/counselor is necessary to find the reason for his noncompliance. If taking for migraines, the situation is not as dire and time can be spent determining if another treatment is better for him.

i've been taking levothyroxine sodium 0,50 mcg for several months, i used to take only 0,25 mcg and i'm now having symptoms of faintiness and dizziness. i feel better when i don't take the medication. what should i do? i can't quit it completely?

: I think you wrote the wrong doses. Your previous dose was 25 mcg (0.025 mg) and current dose is 50 mcg (0.05 mg). If you had been appropriately tested before the dose was changed then you definitely have hypothyroidism and you need thyroid replacement therapy. The current dose may be too high (or not) so you need to be re-tested, do not stop your med, see your doctor ASAP. Take care.
