my 50 yr old sister says all soda causes her diarrhea.and says its the color of whatever  soda she happens to drink.what could be the cause? diabetes?

Sodas are unhealthy: Figure that there are 4 grams of sugar per teaspoon. That means nearly 12 teaspoons of sugar in that bottle of Coke, nearly 7 teaspoons of sugar in the smaller can of Pepsi.

Re your sister, she is 50 years old. She needs to take better care of her health. Start with a full check up by a doctor including all the recommended blood work and other exams. Stopping soda is also a good idea.

Get evaluated: It sounds like you need to make an appointment with a GI doctor.  A gastroenterologist can properly evaluate you and determine what is going on with your colon, and how to proceed.

Pill absorption: The pill is better absorbed with plain water, but the soda will not prevent absorption nor will the "back door" blues.(diarrhea) If you had vomited after taking the pill, then absorption would be affected.

Will be a transition: I suspect that your are drinking so much diet soda that your bowel has become immune to the affects of artificial sweeteners (which are the usual culprits CAUSING diarrhea) so that when the bowel is presented with simple water, it reacts. Good for you that you want to quit this! set up a transition plan: For 3 days, substitute water for every 4th soda; then next 3 days substitute every 3rd, etc.

27 year old male. episodes of diarrhea for about 2 years now. no other issues like abdominal pain. i only eat once a day to try and not have these episodes while at work. i drink about 7-8 sodas per day and meals are definitely not the healthiest?

: You should see a GI doctor to find out why you are having this diarrhea and then to get it treated. You likely should decrease the sodas and work on getting your diet healthier. A nutritionist can help with this after the diarrhea is diagnosed and treated. So, see a GI doctor. Good luck to you!

another fact is for the last month she had acid reflux. i suggested apple cider vinegar and baking soda which has help in the passed but not rece?

Gastric pain: Patients who suffer from gastritis/ peptic ulcer or gastroesophageal reflux can have their symptoms exacerbated with soft drinks; howvever, chills and diarrhea and vomiting is less likely form gastritis, i would suggest you see a gastroenterologist for possible endonscopy.

why do i get severe diarrhea and full body itching within an hour of drinking diet soda? or diet meal replacement shakes?

You may be: allergic to the sweetener in the diet soda or something in the shakes.
