Don't take same day: The problem with taking this particular combination of meds is that they are both sedatives. Taking them in an overlapping manner may cause severe depression of breathing and difficulty awakening, especially if these are new prescriptions that you have not been taking for a while. Avoid taking them at the same time in order to prevent any serious problems.

Benzodiazepines: Both those drugs are Benzodiazepines.  They are scheduled drugs and can be addicting, so must be prescribed and monitored with caution.  The Doctor who prescribed them for you, would be the one best to tell you exactly when you should take them, especially after stopping the one, to Rx the other.  This is best, for your "continuity of care" and assures the prescribing Doctor is aware of your case.

Unsafe to increase: do not increase your dosage without consulting your prescriber and letting them know. its a liability issue.
it may be tolerance. it could be other diagnoses also, such as hyperthyroidism, etc.

Therapeutic: Of course these are just standards for a general population. But, therapeutic levels represents a blood concentration that is high enough to see the effect of the medication still working.  Blood levels of the chemical/drug/medicine are detectable but not at a level to provide with the well known effect of the medication.
