my 2 year old knows only a handful of words and still does not communicate effectively. only recently started speaking a word resembling food. he has had a lot of throat infections and screams many times during the night for attention?

Needs an evaluation: The description you provide suggests a kid with a speech &amp; language deficit for age. You should contact his doc &amp; arrange an evaluation by a speech &amp; language specialist. In the US this is usually done by contracted centers &amp; by school systems if the kid is over 3 yr. Poor communication leads to frustration &amp; aggressive behavior.

i have a dry cough in the morning some green flem then dry cough during the day. my throat hurts a little and feels like something there infection?

Many things : Obviously a viral infection comes to mind first. Allergies can cause these symptoms too, and are very common. See your doctor to straighten this out.

why do i develop a cough when i'm starting to get better?

even when if don't cough during the worst of it; i've noticed when i'm at the stage of overcoming a viral infection, my throat ticked and i start coughing.

just wondering why that is?

he had rsv before
throat infection 
and post nasal drip.

currently i suspect the post nasal and throat infection again. he he coughing during the day but not to much. problem also worsen at night when he sleep?

Rhinosinusitis: Will cause postnasal drip throat irritation and worse at night.  However would also need to think about the possibility of asthma which could also cause a recurring cough worse at night.  Outside chance too of reflux as a cause.  Best to get a doctor examination here to sort through these possibilities as if remains unclear will be able to order tests/refer to specialists

during the day i have a moist cough but no sore throat. could this still be a bacterial infection?

Probably not: Chronic cough like yours probably have other reasons. If you don't smoke, things like asthma, allergic rhinitis with post-nasal drip and acid reflux probably are more common than one would think.

Contrast CT?: If your ct scan was done without contrast, it may be difficult to accurately measure the size of nodes, as they can blend into surrounding structures. A repeat study with intravenous contrast would be preferable to an ultrasound, which cannot see the entire anatomy of the neck.  If the nodes are symmetrically enlarged and aren't larger than 12-15mm, they are likely reactive, not pathologic.

Yes: There are many viruses that can cause a common cold. One may have almost no symptoms or could feel miserable.

i have read that if you tough strep throat out your body could build up natural immunity. what are the pros and cons of not treating strep throat and likelihood of contracting other infections ? also how likely is it that you would build immunity?

Accepted Answer

Strep: If getting strep at your age, you must still have tonsils. If having 3-4 strep infections per year or if strep interfering with work or personal life, time to consider tonsillectomy. Immunity issue probably not applicable, unless you are immune deficient.
