See an allergist: you may be having chronic upper airways inflammation, rhinos infusoria, for whatever reason that's affecting your lower airways, bronchitis. An Allergist / Immunologist evaluation will help decipher your trigger factors, whether you have allergic vs non allergic inflammation and puts a plan of treatment. The Real Question: After your bronchitis has 'healed, ' your status should be stable. But two questions remain: what caused bronchitis initially and why the marijuana? Both could very well be connected. If the marijuana caused, or intensified, the bronchitis, then you can expect the same thing to happen again. Even if not, expect the 'healed' bronchitis to flare again. The advisability of smoking thc is another issue.

There are Pulmonary: DISEASES which can cause COPD at a VERY early age (in childhood!!) CYSTIC FIBROSIS is the main example..and there is a hereditary form of EMPHYSEMA  .....HOWEVER in your case YOU ARE CORRECT..QUIT SMOKING NOW!

Great you quit: Years of smoking can beat down tiny hairs on cells that move mucus up and out of your lungs. When some people quit smoking, some of these cells start working better and can get rid of some of the gunk that was in your lungs. This can cause a temp. increase in phlegm.
  But, black sputum is not normal and a sample should interest your Dr., maybe for tests.

i have ankylosing spondylitis, gerd, lpr, and a motility disorder. friday, i had an upper endoscopy w/stricture dilation.  i also have moderate chronic bronchitis. never smoked.  could the other conditions have caused/worsened the bronchitis?

CF and PCD : Cystic Fibrosis and Primary or Secondary ciliary dyskinesia may be considered. A culture of airway secretions/sputum and imaging should be included in your work up. Monitor your temperature and if there is shortness of breath or a cough, please have a COVID 19 screening test.  Autoimmune panels may be useful in detecting auto-antibodies which may contribute to your respiratory symptoms.

Bronchitis.: Chronic bronchitis is typcally seen in smoker, current or past. The mucous membrane lining of respiratory tract becomes more responsive by producing more secretions resulting in cough.

No worries: Viral bronchitis will resolve, sooner or later. From days to weeks. There is no reason to worry.

Smoking has become a "social no no". Fortunately second hand smoke does not cause lung damage, although more and more people find it very annoying. For real lung disease and cancer you have to smoke at least 30 years yourself, 20 cigarettes daily. Something you did not do.
