Not after 16 weeks.: You should not be flat on your back for prolonged periods.  After about 16 weeks the uterus is large enough to impede blood flow in the inferior vena cava decreasing the cardiac output, which could potentially harm your fetus.  You should sleep with a pillow or wedge under your right side to tip you to the left, or you should sleep turned well onto your right side.

Not necessarily: But it may be more comfortable for you and facilitate blood flow toward fetus if you lie on your side as pregnancy progresses.

I vote "It's a myth": Normal pregnant women, or any woman, may sleep in whichever position she finds comfortable. Getting a good night's sleep is important, regardless of whether one is pregnant or not. Pregnancy: When you sleep on your back, the increased weight of uterus presses on the major vein. That returns blood from your legs to your heart. By second trimester, and definitely by third trimester, sleep on your side. Get a pregnancy pillow that supports your belly, back and legs. Good luck.

Hi there : Experts recommend pregnant women avoid sleeping on their backs during the second and third trimesters. Why? The back sleep position rests the entire weight of the growing uterus and baby on your back, your intestines and your vena cava, the main vein that carries blood back to the heart from your lower body.

Some basics: You need adequate restorative sleep to support a healthy pregnancy. Your sleeping position will be of little importance until the last trimester when the enlarging womb can press downward on the arteries supplying your lower torso &amp; the fetus. There are some concerns decreased blood flow could occur. So early on anything is fine but later in the process sleeping on a side is preferred.

Please consult ASAP: With your cardiologist, he will need to follow you throughout the pregnancy and can give you his opinion, the cardiologist will need to work closely with your OB and a perinatologist and you may be better served delivering at a university medical center, for example, if you were in my area would refer u to the univ of miaim.

Hard to sleep : It can be hard to get comfortable during sleep, or anything else for that matter.  Sleeping on your left side is best because baby gets the most blood flow.  Avoid back and obviously your stomach.  
Try a warm bath, warm fruit tea, or a massage before bed to help you sleep. Hope all goes well with you and baby.

after my pregnancy as soon as i have a sweet or something sweet i want to fall asleep, my sugar levels are in normal range.

Somnolence: Taking a break from the constant activity required in the care of a newborn, plus the tasks of normal housekeeping or employment can provoke sleepiness even without consumption of "sweets".  It is the planned break in activity which allows a sleep deprived individual to naturally reclaim sleep time, not sweets, per se.
