is it normal to have breakthrough bleeding after skipping a period on triphasic birth control? how long should it last?

Breakthrough bleedin: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time)  is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time.  If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen  then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working.

how can i skip my period or delay it for one week when taking tri-previfem (triphasic birth control)? i only need to do this one time

Extra pills for a we: After 3 weeks on your current pack of pills you can  immediately start on a new pack for one week. These 7 pills will take the place of "blank" pills at the end of a 4 week pack.  Then go off the pills for a week to have your period. At this point it would be best to start on a whole new pack, to avoid confusion. Other option: finish out the new pack to delay menses by 2 more weeks.

i'm on a triphasic birth control pill. i want to delay my period by taking 2 packs at a time. take all the white pills from 2 packs etc..is that safe?

Call your gyn: But if u do not want a period you do not take the placebo pills at the end u start a new pack, and i would recommend a lower dose pill as i hardly ever prescribe that pill only for women who have problems with lower dose pills , the lower the dose the safer.

Yes: As long as you take a pill everyday, you should be fine.

Efficacy: Birth control pills only become effective after you have completed 1 complete pack of pills. Please do not be careless. Use condoms and foam during the first month of BC pills.

Accepted Answer

Rarely.: Are you taking Kariva regularly every day? If you are, and missed your period, continue taking the pill daily but let your doctor know. Kariva has estrogen at the end of the cycle so periods are lighter or spot. Taken perfectly, ocp like Kariva have 1% failure rate. If you have missed 2 periods, or have been irregularly taking the pills, you could be pregnant and need to see your primary or ob.

Pills and cycles: Pills will usually regulate cycles, but are better at preventing pregnancy than creating perfect cycles.

You want to get: period , you do not want to get breakthrough bleeding , am i correct ? I suggest to skip it second time and wait your regular withdrawal bleeding .  If you have any concern talk to your gyn.

Continue same pill: By continuing taking the pill with the same content of hormones as the last one before taking the inactive pills will delay a woman's period by as many days as she continue to take that pill. 
There are different pills with different hormone combinations during different days of the cycle - so a woman would want to continue with the same pill.

: The use of a hormone contraceptive could potentially disrupt a cycle however if you didn’t have any cycle at all after inserting it it would be worthwhile checking a pregnancy test
