skin rash from alcohol, how can i help lessen reaction?

Not sure what you: Are experiencing. Jaundice? Dermatitis from using hand sanitizer? Dry skin? Hives? If you can provide a little more detail about what the rash looks like and why you link it to alcohol, that would really be helpful information. i have itchy skin on back of calves. they appear to look like rashes and turn to scabs  don't go away. they get worse when i drink alcohol or shave.?

Sounds like eczema: Sounds like you may have some eczema, although this isn't the most common place for it.  It would be best to let a doctor look at these rashes -- start with your primary care doctor, and if need be, see a dermatologist.  Good luck to you.

i get jock's itch, facial and neck rashes and itch and dry skin the next day i consume alcohol. what could be the problem? i am 46 years old,on obese side,drink alcohol,say weekly...sugar and cholestrol border line with poor eating, not on medication

Easy to explain: It makes you sweat more and move less while sleeping. I'm glad you're eager to make a change. You're still young and probably vigorous. Head down to the local gym or sports center, let others see that you're working hard on your body, and they'll accept you as a friend and support you in your body transformation. Can impede healing: Best thing to do after the initial disinfection with soap or alcohol is to apply petroleum ointment (plain vaseline) at least twice daily until the skin has re-epithelized (about 5-7days). Hydrogen peroxide can be harmful to the healing skin, antibiotic ointments increase the risk of allergic contact dermatitis, alcohol can dry out the wound resulting in a scab which can also slow down healing.

Even : Even though there is no "official" interaction between Methylprednisolone (a steroid) and alcohol, we generally recommend avoiding the combo because they can exacerbate each other's side effects.  For example: both steroids and alcohol can cause gastritis and stomach upset, so the two together can make this side effect even more likely and more severe.  Another reason why we generally advise avoiding alcohol with steroids is because some of the illnesses we use steroids to treat (like ulcerative colitis) can be made worse with alcohol consumption.  This may not pertain to you with your rash, though.

True diagnosis of skin issues usually requires a direct visual exam &amp; occasionally testing. No diagnosis can be made from the information you provided. A contact dermatitis is suggested but other possibilities exist.
