can i apply icy hot cream on my elbow pain while on accutane? i don't want any skin reactions.

Accepted Answer

Poss- no interaction: Depending on if you have allergies to topical medications or not, the Accutane should not interact with the Icy-Hot.  The two medications work differently.  I am assuming you use the Accutane on your face and the Icy Hot on the elbow

Accepted Answer

RSD: RSD is now called chronic regional pain syndrome.  It is a clinical diagnosis but sometimes we use a bone scan that can help detect changes and then affected extremity.  I recommend to my patients the use of topical pain creams such as diclofenac and others.  I would also recommend evaluation by a rheumatologist.

i have some form of under skin growth on my elbow, been there for years now but of late it has become ainful. what type of dr should i see?

Dermatologist: You could consult a general surgeon but I recommend a dermatologist for evaluation and advice for most skin lesions. However if the lesion is very tender, swollen or with spreading redness, in that case a surgeon is probably a better choice.

Might be tendonitis: A person who gets a numbness, soreness, or tenderness (to pressing on it) where the muscles attach near the elbow may have tendonitis . . . But he will usually know what caused it. The cause is overuse of the arm during the past day or two. Icing the sore spot and taking some Motrin can help. He can wrap the sore area with an over-the-counter elastic band, which will spread the muscle's force out.

It depends: In a younger person, this could little league elbow and break down of the elbow joint that can lead to long term elbow problems. If the pain is medial and goes into your ring and little finger, it's probably cubital tunnel syndrome, which is a pinched nerve on the inside of the elbow. If its the outside of the elbow, it may be tennis elbow syndrome. If it keeps hurting see a doctor.

Referral to Surgeon: A sharp pain at the point of the elbow may be caused by damage to the soft tissues over the olecranon (bone) located at this point.  This is often leaned when sitting which can lead to swelling .  This could also be 'tennis elbow' due to repetitive work which involves constant  movement of your elbow. I suggest seeing an Orthopaedic surgeon for proper diagnosis and treatment.

my right elbow hurts really bad feels like its coming apart it hurts more when lifting outside my body or doing anything to twist or turn it

Accepted Answer

Probably lateral: Epicondylitis.  Pain on outside of elbow with gripping an grabbing. Pain radiating up arm and into forearm. Treat it with ice massage, wrist brace to keep the muscles in your forearm rested and nsaids if needed. If not getting better a cortisone injection should help.

See someone if: Pain, swelling, redness, decreased range of motion occurs or persists.

i hit my elbow rather hard on the wall. it put me to tears. but i shook it off and now my elbow hurts to touch. i can extend arm.  should i wait ?

Well! : As long as u have full pom & it is painless u may have olecronon bursitis. This would present as a fluid filled sack @ the tip of the elbow. U should b cn by an orthopedic surgeon 4 eval, xam & x- rays 2 b sure. If this is what u have some may aspirate & inject with steroids. If there's any abrasion or cut over the area there is a chance of infection. Increase in pain swelling & pain report right.

elbow pain over 6 months. went to the gym for 6 months and it started randomly in both elbows. push ups don't hurt but rotating wrists fast hurts. ?

Accepted Answer

Maybe: May be lateral epicondylitis ( tennis elbow). Should respond to eccentric stretches.  May take some time to get better (4-6 Weeks)
