Depends: Cataract surgery involves the substitution of an artificial lens for the removed and cloudy natural lens.  This causes the iris to recede backwards in the eye as the new lens is smaller.  This creates a smaller pupil and that is the usual expectation.  On your next visit with your cataract surgeon bring this up as perhaps there is some remedy or other cause in your case.

Until cataract out: The congenital cataract sits right behind the pupil, and may appear as the white spot.  If this spot is the cataract, it will stay until surgically removed, which is not needed unless/until vision is compromised from aging related cataract changes.

Depends: Your cataract surgeon may have used intraoperative medication to constrict the pupil (Miochol™, Miostat™). This is medication is used for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's use is to assess vitreous presentation in the anterior chamber during capsular rupture. It is also used for anterior chamber intraocular lens placement &amp; for performing an iridectomy. The pupil construction will resolve.

After surgery: It is not uncommon to have a constricted pupil after surgery. It should return to normal within 7 days.

Call eye doctor now: Uncomplicated cataract surgery is not associated with these symptoms. Call your eye doctor right now. If you can't get hold of him, rush to the ER.  This is vital for your eyesight.

i am a 62 yr old female  just has cataract removal & multifocal implants. my rt eye now dr says looks like it has adies tonic pupil. can it go away?

Post op dilation: If you have a true Adie's pupil, your pupil is dilated looking into distance and then when you focus at near for a while your pupil slowly gets smaller and will not redilate when you look back into distance. This gives night glare and makes reading very hard. It can get better as time goes on (1-2 years). It is not too unusual post surgery and may result from pressure spike. Not a true Adies pupil

teen had serious eye injury caused a cataract, torn iris and misshaped pupil.  surgery fixed most, except for the fixed dilated pupil.  are there any health risks from the fdp constantly bringing in the light?

Dilated pupil: There are no significant health risks from a dilated pupil You should wear sunglasses that block the harmful sun rays.There is a surgical procedure if appropriate in your case to reduce the size of your pupil. Your ophthalmologist can make this decision.Certainly it seems you have received great surgical care.

Seek help: If you eye is truly that swollen you need to seek help immediately.  You only have two eyes and your vision is critical to living. While it could be something benign as allergy related don't delay evaluation!  Best of luck

Inflammationis: After cataract surgery, the pupil may be larger than average size, smaller than average size, or not changed in size.  There are a lot of factors that affect post-operative pupil size.  Inflammation in the eye usually causes the pupil to be smaller.  All of the above is not worrisome as long as your doctor is reassuring you that your eye is recovering from the cataract extraction  acceptably.
