Trigeminal nerve: You have a problem with the 5th cranial nerve, which is called the trigeminal nerve. You're describing symptoms consistent with that -the middle branch of it in fact. You should call your doctor today and try to be seen. If you develop any rash in that area, you need to go to the ER now and ask for an Infectious Diseases doctor (someone who would know about shingles). Lyme or other causes possible

Not likely: Tmj syndrome causes much more serious aches and pains in the jaw, get evaluated by a dentist to see if this 'numbness' is dental or TMJ related!

Neuritis: Atypical facial pain can come and go.  Severe spasms can occur (tic douloureux) that are in the tri-geminal distribution.  You describe v2 distribution.  However, ear and sinus disease must be excluded.  A thorough medical evaluation would be appropriate.

See a neurologist: The sensory nerve supply to upper lip and nose comes from inferior orbital branch of maxillary nerve. Therefore a problem could be any where along its course. A neurologist can investigate the cause which may or may not be serious.

Not sure but it: Could be the onset of shingles affecting the trigeminal or facial nerve or a localized nerve inflammation. Follow up with ur dr if it worsens. Take care!

Facial nerve: compression, inflammation, or damage.  Numbness only on one side of the nose and upper lip would result when only the buccal branch of the facial nerve is involved. Sleeping or performing activities with the head in an abnormal position can generate pressure and inflammation on the nerve. Other potential causes  include Bell's palsy, shingles, stroke, and multiple sclerosis (MS).
