are silicone based lubes better than water based for the vagina? are there any dangers from either?

: Water-based lube is popular because it is easy to clean up, safe to use with condoms and sex toys, and does not stain clothes or sheets. It is also available in a wide range of textures and flavors. K-Y Jelly is most recommended. However, water-based lube is not as long-lasting as silicone lube and may need to be reapplied during extended sexual activities. Also water-based is not waterproof.

Hard to say: There has been an association with silicone breast implants and a certain rare type of lymphoma, but the number of cases has been small.  We cannot say for sure that silicone based products cause cancer.

will silicone based lubrication affect nuvaring? i've heard different stories that it coats the ring and the hormones can't be released properly?

Accepted Answer

Water soluble gel: Water soluble gels only should be used for sexual or Nuva ring insertion lubrication to avoid any impairment of the hormones being perfused by the Nuva ring. Examples include Maxilube or K-Y.

i bought a silicone based lubricant. this is not meant for scars. can i use it to help heal a scar? lot less expensive then ones labeled scar healer!

Yes: One of the keys to prevent scarring is to allow the wound to remain moist until healed.  That is where the silicone helps.  But if you apply what you have , a thin fim enough to keep the wound moist, it should do the trick

OK, but...: Oil will degrade any condom making them unreliable for prevention of disease.  Coconut oil has no ability to prevent any std.

: Use of sterile lubrication medium with "sex toy", providing instrument is prepared by cleansing with antibacterial soap will not cause significant incidence of bladder infection. If urgency, burning occurs subsequent to use, obtain a urine culture from your provider.

No: Risk factors for developing penile cancer include:
uncircumcised
chronic inflammation
smoking and tobacco use
exposrure to hpv.

im 22 and only in the recent year, i get minor tears during sex more frequently despite the lube i use (water/silicone). its also gotten to a point where i cant have sex for more than 10minutes before i start hurting and feeling a burn. any advice?

Accepted Answer

: Vaginal yeast infection is a good possibility. Keep working with your gynecologist -- or if uncertain of his or her expertise, perhaps get a second opinion. You also could try an over-the-counter yeast medicaion -- any of the many products with active ingredient ending in "azole" would be good to try (clotrimazole, miconazole, and many more). For sure get care if that doesn't do it. Good luck.

Avoidance: If you are developing a sensitivity to these products then I would avoid using them. If you have a true sensitivity then your reactions will only get worse the more you use it. If you want more details see an Allergist to determine risks.

i used sexual water based gel lube that expired may of 2021. i just noticed. is this bad? can i use expired lube?

Accepted Answer

: The expiration date on these products is the last time the manufacturer assures the potency and effectiveness of the product. It doesn't go bad like a food item might, but it begins to break down some. It may not be as comforting as you would like, but you can use it until you replace it. (Soon would be good)
