MS: The MS patient , more frequently present  with blurred vision,  one extremity , or both difficult, loss equilibrium, poor concentration, anxious, imbalance , difficult to sleep, numbness one side or bilateral.

Excellent question: Subtle problems early on can be very misleading and indeed, can confuse docs.  Some common early signs include loss of vision in one eye, weakness in legs or arms, electrical shocks on flexing neck, gait imbalance or incoordination,  numbness or tingling, vague persistent fatigue, even confusion or disorientation.  Mri's are commonly helpful.

Early: Difficult to say as it varies from person to person. Usually there are strange neurologic symptoms. Bell's palsy (half of face is paralyzed) can be a sign.

Diabetes
Stroke
Neuropathy etc

Signs of MS?: It's not impossible, but you're in a low-risk group. For information about the manifestations of MS, look at the websites of the MS Foundation &amp; the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

occasionally i get an electric zap(sometimes painful) sensation in different spots on body. could this be a sign of ms? very scared. no other symptoms

Accepted Answer

MS: These scattered sharp shooting pains in different parts of the body are not necessarily characteristic of MS, but indicate an irritability of superficial nerves. Often in my experience the cause is elusive and usually nonserious. I would check for vitamin B12 or thiamine (vitamin B1)deficiency and diabetes. Consult a neurologist as needed.

i had a mri that showed minimal white matter disease that was not addressed. now im having signs of ms. ?

Get re-evaluated: The MRI may well be nonspecific, and the result of migraine, old head trauma, smoking, etc.  But if you now have neurological symptoms, and "signs", this needs to be evaluated fully and diagnosed, so that the appropriate cause can be treated.  This may not necessarily be MS, and certainly best to find out.

could swelling of joints and nuckles be a sign of ms?

Inflammatory arthrit: Ms affects the brain and spinal cord, and does not afflict joints or bony structures directly.  The description raises questions of a rheumatological condition such as arthritis of an inflammatory sort.  Some pts have both rheumatoid and ms, but not clear to me at this point that you have a primary neurological process.  See a rheumatologist first.

is a branch retinal vein occlusion could be a sign of ms ?

Accepted Answer

Don't think so: Optic neuritis is typically associated with ms.  Brvo is associated with hypertension, or certain blood clotting disorders, depending on your age.
