For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

Symptoms can be: Vague: painful blindness, odd sensations of the body, weakness, bowel/bladder changes, etc.  However, i could make an endless list of other medical disorders that cause the same problems.  The only way to know if you have ms is to be evaluated properly and to see if you meet the mcdonald criteria, which dictates the diagnostic criteria.

Visible: Usually there are no symptoms until very late. Odd bumps, ulcers or abnormal pigmented lesions are the presentation. The most concerning is melanoma -- find a few good melanoma sites and read the ABCDE's. The photos will help.  Best wishes.

Yes: Lactate dehydrogenase (ldh) can be elevated in metastatic melanoma.  When it is, it is a poor prognostic sign.  Another, less proven, test is called tumor antigen 90 (ta-90).  It is thought by some to be elevated in advanced melanoma.  I have found it to be nonspecific and no longer use it in my practice, however.

Depends on depth: Malignant melanoma is categorized by its depth in the skin.  If it is superficial (melanoma in situ) it is less likely to spread, but not impossible.  At a certain depth, the dermatologist usually recommends a chest xray and sometimes a lymph node biopsy to determine spread.  Frequent return visits for skin checks are also recommended.  Be glad your melanoma was recognized and will be removed.

3 weeks ago i scratched a mole off that had changed  colour overnight it left a pigmented legion .should i wait a few weeks to see if it grows back to go to a dermatologist?  would it have spread by now and caused symptoms by now  if it were melanoma?

: Probably not melanoma but instead of procrastinating and guessing it might be better to see the Dermatologist sooner than later.

ive had an atypical mole for years, and it has stayed the same size/color and irregular shape. never showing signs of changing. what signs should i be on alert for in regards to melanoma? especially considering it fits the asymmetrical symptom?

: Has a dermatologist examined this lesion and advised you about proper follow-up?  If not, I strongly recommend that you consult one. Melanomas are every tricky for physicians and,at times, for the dermatologist. I have even seen dermatologists miss the diagnosis. So stay vigilant and get evaluation &amp; advice from a specialist especially for an unusual appearing skin lesion.

Depends..: There are actually different types of melanoma.  The most important thing that predicts how dangerous a melanoma will be is the depth of its growth in the skin.  Never shave a lesion which might be a melanoma.  It needs to be biopsied by a doctors knowledgable in skin cancers.  www.melanomafoundation.org.
