This can happen when one of the nerves that control the muscles in the face gets damaged or stops working. Damage to this nerve usually happens when the nerve becomes swollen or inflamed because of an infection with a virus. Strokes can present with unilateral facial weakness as well.

If new: it means you were exposed to something (sun, chemical) to which you are allergic more on one side than the other.  You can also affect the puffiness of your face by sleeping on it wrong.  To stay symmetric, sleep with your head straight up towards ceiling (so lying on your back)
