i had surgery today on my l3 l4 and l5 they did give me an iv in my right arm right at the bend of my arm. propofol and lidocaine was administered through the iv after surgery my upper arm is swollen but it only hurts when i move it?

Constipation: Constipation would be the most common side effect of lortab after surgery. Other side effects can include headache, nausea, itching, sweating and drowsiness. These do not necessarily occur but are some of the more common side effects in some people.

Depends: On majority of cases the answer is no. If you were getting morphine for several days you can experience withdrawal symptoms which can be treated. Talk to your doctor.

No: The pharmacology of all drugs changes with aging (lowered lean body mass & body water and higher body fat). A drug given rapidly to induce sleep will have a higher blood concentration and peak effect in the elderly: reduced BP & cardiac output (heart pumping activity) & slowed cardiac conduction. Broadly speaking, the elderly are 20% more sensitive to propofol.

Mainly sleepiness: Propofol is a medication given intravenously to produce sedation or sleep. It has become very popular since it has very few side effects; very little "hangover' feeling, and very little other effects such as nausea or anxiety.  However, it can depress breathing. An anesthesiologist should supervise your care if you are going to receive rocumonium or any muscle relaxant.

Depends: totally depends on what type of procedure you had. If it was a relatively small procedure then propofol alone may be all that you received. For example colonoscopies are routinely done with just propofol. If however it was a more significant surgery then most likely some inhalational anesthetics was probably added. In that case propofol would simply be the induction agent.

It will be fine: You've had it before.  And you will get less than what you had for surgery.  You will be monitored continuously and people are ready to step in if you have any difficulties.  Which you won't.

Very uncommon: When used properly by a trained anesthesiologist the risk of complications from Propofol are very rare.  True problems only arise when it is used off market for things it is not meant for (such as a sleep aid) and/or it is administered by someone with out the proper training.

In appropriate place: Propofol is an extremely fast acting drug that is commonly used today. It requires full monitoring by a highly trained anesthesia professional. Under those circumstances it is a very valuable asset in the range of options for patient management. The problems with michael jackson were the lack of monitoring and the inappropriate use.

Propofol Anesthesia: Propofol (Deprivan)  is an anesthetic agent and as such it can't provide analgesia (pain reduction) therefor it is used with other drugs
