Estrogen: Alesse is a combination pill, and your symptoms sound like estrogen excess-related side effects. The fact that you get better in placebo days means that you need a different BCP, possibly a mini pull with only a progestin. See your OB for a switch !

SAM-e: In some studies, sam-e showed benefit in depression. Unfortunately most of those available have small numbers or last less than 6 weeks. Low risk: Very few side effects expected.  Possibly some spotting but that should be it.  In general, there's nothing wrong with continuing to take active pills and skipping over the placebo pills.  Every three months or so you should let yourself menstruate by either stopping the active pills or taking the placebo pills.

: Could be side effects from new brand. Consult your OBGYN or PCP and if indicated a HCG will be done. Unprotected sex can still cause pregnancy, even at a low risk, no matter what forms of BC one is on.
