i have shingles on the lower rightof my back. the pain is pins and needles. is it normal to vary in intensity from no pain to numbness down my leg?

Symptoms can vary: Several key issues, as an attack of shingles may respond very well to medications.  Yes, intensity can vary and referred symptoms at the same rootlet level are not uncommon.  But if pain or electrical sensations are not sufficiently quelled, you may require modification of your current treatment regimen.  This could evolve to chronicity.  Keep your doctor updated on your condition.

fell on right hip. 2 days later shingles broke out from crack all over right buttock.
2 weeks old now and have bad numbness on right  buttock, scrotum, both feet and anus. some numbness on back of right leg.
will this go away or see neurology ?

See doc: Either your primary care doc or neurology if already involved. It is likely that you developed postherpetic neuralgia that may associate severe pain and aside from other possible conditions. The doc who diagnosed you with shingles will be best to further assess.

Vzv: Sshingles can cause separate neurologic manifestations (neuropathy, myelitis, etc) from the rash and pain. Would be very unlikely to occcur at same time.

Medication: The numbness in your feet is part of the neuropathy that is associated with the shingles.  Talk to your doctor, as there are a few medications that he can put you on the help alleviate the symptoms.

No.: Shingles affects sensory nerves, not motor nerves, so should not directly cause muscle weakness. A visit to a neurologist might be a good idea.

Shingles: You should go to a dermatologist to be evaluated. Unless you are immunosupressed it would be extremely rare for a 20 yr old to get shingles once, and almost never twice   you must have something else. Perhaps herpes simplex  or impetigo or contact dermatitis   it may need to be evaluated with bacterial and viral cultures and a skin biopsy. Once diagnosed there medicine to help your condition.

Maybe: While these symptoms could be from shingles, it sounds more like a pinched nerve.

Possibly: Yes, though weakness is a little unusual unless the pain is severe.  Do you have a rash?  It would be one sided if shingles.  
You should see your GP or a walk in clinic or at least call your provincial nurse line.  It&#x27;s hard, incidentally, for anyone to &quot;rule out all other causes&quot; (of anything).  If you have already seen your doc, it might be time for another opinion. Be persistent.
