A patient should call first to see if the facility routinely gives the shingles vaccine, has it in stock, and has the personnel available to give the vaccine at a time convenient for the patient. There are now 2 types of vaccine:  Shingrix is the preferred one, Zostavax is the older one.

Back to work: The answer depends upon where you work and where your blisters are located.

    If the blisters are on your face, do not return to work until the area has crusted over, which generally takes seven to 10 days.
        If the blisters are in an area that you can cover (eg, with a gauze bandage or clothing), you may return to work when you feel well.

Shingles Treatment: By "shingles shot" I assume you mean the vaccine.   Shingles vaccine is used to prevent occurrence of the shingles, but is not effective in treating an acute outbreak of shingles.   Antiviral medications are used to treat acute shingles outbreak.  Pain that lingers long after a shingles outbreak  is called post-herpetic neuralgia and treated with medications such as Lidoderm, Neurontin, or Lyrica (pregabalin).

: There is no specific period to wait after having shingles but at least wait until the eruption has completely cleared before taking the vaccine.

Shingles: This is bothersome. There are many options and you really should see a pain management doctor.  Nsaids, topical agents, tens, cold laser, injections, stronger pain medication if necessary may be used.

: The only way to find out is to have a doctor evaluate the rash. There is no way to know for sure what a rash is due to unless the rash is examined and evaluated in person by a doctor. So, see your doctor and have the rash evaluated. Once a diagnosis is made, it can be treated. A dermatologist can evaluate your rash. Best of luck to you!
