Dr. can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). A couple days of throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) can decrease throat pain.

See a doctor: And have your throat cultured or run a rapid strep screen.  If this is bacterial (commonly grp a strep) then it can be treated with antibiotics, but will not get better much more rapidly.  The major function of antibiotics is to prevent post-streptococcal complications like acute rheumatic fever, but if viral, needs no antibiotics.

Throat infection: The symptoms that you have described sound like your tonsil could be infected.  Although an infection could be caused by a virus, it may be due to a bacterial infection.  You should see a doctor and have your throat tested for  Strep.  A doctor can also determine if there is an abscess in your tonsil.  Antibiotics and possible drainage of an abscess would be warranted in that case.

Throat: Likely adenovirus, possibly allergic process.  if no symptoms and you can eat salsa fluids and ibuprofen enough.  If fever, fatigue or persistent problem get checked.
