i have been getting sharp pain under my left breast(ribcage) for months now. sometimes hurts when taking deep breaths. heart related?

Unlikely: These kind of sensations are not rare. Very frequent actually. That said, you do need to get into the habit of doing self-breast exams. Same time every month, either in shower or lying down 2-4 days after your period ends. "lawn mower" technique advised. W/respect to cardiac worries, need an in-person eval to listen to heart sounds, get chest XR &amp; 12-lead ECG, which may prompt echo &amp; telemetry.

Muscle Spasm: It was most likely a muscle spasm in the chest wall or in between a rib there.   Very common.

Pleuritic; costal: Costochondritis may  be caused by trauma, such as bumping the rib cage; as a result of a viral infection; or as part of an inflammatory disease process. Usually the cause is unknown;
pleurisy is inflammation of the lining of the lungs and chest (the pleura) that leads to chest pain (usually sharp) when you take a breath or cough.

Muscle Pain: Muscle between 2 ribs is hurting when you take a deep breath and the hurt muscle stretches. Gentle massage and tylenol (acetaminophen) will help.

Muscle or nerve: This sounds like a strained or inflammed muscle or a pinched nerve in the rib cage. I recommend resting the area, applying heat, liniment and, if you can take them, nsaids to resolve the problem.

Not likely: The pain of heart attack is generally a steady aching, pain or pressure sensation.  However, it can present in many different ways.  The pain you describe does not sound like a heart attack.  Other possibilities to worry about include blood clot in the lungs.  Best to see your doctor, or go to an urgent care, especially if any other symptoms such as shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness etc.

Probably: Slipped rib syndrome or costochondritis. Rarely it could be inflammation of lung lining, but if you're not otherwise febrile or ill, rib problem is more likely. See your doctor for an exam.
